The Team
The Housing team within S&P Global Ratings' Public Finance practice covers approximately 600 ratings across housing finance agencies, public housing authorities, and community development financial institutions across the United States. The team nalyses capital fund financings and federally-enhanced housing issues, combining rigorous credit analysis with strong collaboration to deliver clear and trusted credit opinions on the affordable housing sector.
Responsibilities and Impact
Team Contribution & Capability Building
- Coach junior team members on credit analysis, data discipline, and analytical tooling, building team consistency through shared standards and the responsible adoption of AI tools.
- Lead end-to-end credit analysis for assigned credits, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery across the housing finance portfolio.
- Manage surveillance and updates for an assigned portfolio, synthesizing performance, market signals, and peer context into clear risk insights; apply large language model tools in analytical workflows with structured validation and documentation.
- Translate complex data, analysis, and research into clear narratives for clients, senior stakeholders, and rating committees, and build effective relationships with issuers and market participants.
- Ensure adherence to methodology, confidentiality, and data governance requirements, escalating emerging issues early with clear options and recommendations.
- Contribute to controlled automation workflows, supporting the design, testing, and rollout of AI-enabled tools while helping define appropriate boundaries between automated and human-led analytical processes.
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $127,000 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. What We're Looking For
Required Skills and Experience
- An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 3+ years of relevant experience in financial analysis, public finance, or affordable housing finance.
- Demonstrated experience in affordable housing finance, including roles in loan underwriting, portfolio management, real estate development, or capital raising.
- Demonstrated understanding of affordable housing policies, financing structures, and funding programs, including low-income housing tax credits, housing choice vouchers (Section 8), and mortgage revenue bond programs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements and credit risk, delivering high-quality outputs across multiple credits with limited oversight.
- Practical experience embedding AI, large language models, or agentic workflows into analytical processes to improve productivity and insight.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear narratives for senior stakeholders and rating committees.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. A master's degree or professional certification (such as CFA) is highly valued. We welcome candidates from traditional finance disciplines as well as diverse academic backgrounds that support innovative and critical thinking.
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior analysts in an analytical or financial services environment.
- Experience contributing to scalable automation or AI workflows, including defining requirements, supporting testing, and enabling adoption.
- Experience applying credit rating methodologies or public finance analytical frameworks in a structured credit assessment context.
- We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
- Employees are required to work from the office a minimum of two days per week.
