Overview

Under general supervision, the Golf Course Irrigation Specialist is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of the golf course irrigation system. This position ensures efficient water management and proper irrigation coverage to maintain healthy turf conditions throughout the golf course, event center grounds, open space areas, Frisbee golf course, and other designated City properties. The Irrigation Specialist performs irrigation diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and assists with golf course maintenance operations as needed.

Experience Required

1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.

2. Two (2) years of experience in irrigation maintenance, golf course maintenance, landscape irrigation, parks maintenance, or a related field.

3. A combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

4. Must be 18 years of age or older.

5. Valid Colorado Driver's License.

6. Ability to obtain a Colorado Pesticide Applicator License within 12 months

Essential Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate, monitor, and adjust the golf course irrigation control system to meet turf and landscape needs.

• Inspect irrigation systems and identify deficiencies, leaks, broken components, coverage issues, and water management concerns.

• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation heads, valves, pipe, wiring, controllers, pumps, quick couplers, and related infrastructure.

• Perform preventative maintenance on irrigation systems and equipment.

• Assist in the development and implementation of irrigation schedules based on weather conditions, turf requirements, and water conservation practices.

• Monitor water usage and recommend improvements to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.

• Maintain irrigation maps, repair logs, maintenance records, and inventory of irrigation supplies.

• Perform hand watering and moisture management activities as needed.

• Assist with turf maintenance operations including mowing, aeration, topdressing, fertilization, and course setup.

• Support maintenance operations for open space, event center grounds, Frisbee golf course, and surrounding City-owned properties.

• Respond to emergency irrigation repairs and water system failures.

• Assist with seasonal startup, winterization, and shutdown of irrigation systems.

• Operate equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner. • Follow all applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, and City policies.

• Monitor, inspect, and assist with maintenance of irrigation pump stations, filtration systems, storage facilities, and related water delivery infrastructure.

• Utilize central irrigation control software, weather stations, moisture meters, and other irrigation technologies to optimize water use and turf health.

• Conduct moisture testing, soil monitoring, and field evaluations to identify localized dry spots, manage turf stress, and improve irrigation efficiency.

• Assist in tracking water budgets, irrigation system performance metrics, and regulatory compliance related to water usage and conservation.

• Assist with irrigation system renovations, new installations, drainage projects, and capital improvement initiatives.

• Lead irrigation system winterization and spring startup operations, including blowout procedures, pump station preparation, and system commissioning.

• Assist in training maintenance staff on proper irrigation practices, hand watering techniques, moisture management, and identification of irrigation system deficiencies.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.
