NC State University is seeking a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as Director of Finance and Business Management for Campus Enterprises. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, this role provides leadership and oversight for financial operations within a complex, self supporting auxiliary division operating at the intersection of higher education and business enterprise.
Campus Enterprises encompasses a varied portfolio of retail and hospitality services that enhance the student experience. The division’s departments include, NC State Dining, Rave! Catering, Wolfpack Outfitters (bookstore), Student Centers, Wolf Express (printing), One Card Office (university IDs), and Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
This position is ideal for a leader who thrives in a dynamic, multi-unit environment balancing mission-driven decision-making with institutional compliance and sound business practices.
Primary responsibilities include:
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Serve as a key advisor to divisional and university leadership, aligning financial strategy with institutional priorities and long-range planning.
- Translate organizational goals into actionable financial plans that support both mission and financial sustainability.
Division-Wide Financial Oversight
- Lead all finance and business management functions, including budgeting, accounting, procurement, and financial reporting.
- Oversee a $90M+ portfolio of auxiliary revenues, student fees, and institutional funds across multiple service lines
- Support the university’s financial management as part of the Office of Finance and Administration.
Auxiliary & Business Operations Alignment
- Provide financial leadership and guidance at the operating department level and for the division’s administrative support functions.
- Ensure financial models support operational performance and reinvestment into student programs and services.
Compliance, Controls & Stewardship
- Ensure compliance with State, UNC System and NC State policies, procedures and regulations.
- Maintain adherence to GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards.
- Establish and monitor strong internal controls to safeguard university assets and ensure reporting integrity.
- Coordinate with university financial leadership within the Office of Finance and Administration, including the Controller’s Office, Budget and Resource
- Management, Procurement & Business Services, Foundations Accounting & Investments and Internal Audit as applicable.
Team Leadership & Workforce Development
- Supervise and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a service-oriented, and high-performing culture.
- Support professional development and continuous learning aligned with university and business need
Systems & Process Innovation
- Leverage enterprise systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, NetSuite) and data tools to enhance reporting and operational efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement and modernization of financial and business processes.
Campus Partnership & Collaboration
- Collaborate with central offices, academic units, and administrative partners in a shared governance environment.
- Serve as a key liaison between Campus Enterprises and university stakeholders on division financial matters.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in financial management or accounting, including supervisory responsibility
- Proven ability to lead in a complex, multi-unit organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education, public sector, or auxiliary services finance
- Knowledge of UNC System and university financial policies and procedures
- Advanced degree (MBA, MAcc) and/or CPA
- Experience leading financial teams in retail, hospitality, or service-oriented operations.
Department Required Skills
- echnical experience: Strong analytical skills, cost and retail accounting and governmental accounting experience, including working knowledge of FASB, GASB, and GAAP. Management of A/P, A/R, general ledger, budget, capital requirements, procurement and financial analysis operations for the division.
- Critical thinking: Previous experience with producing and analyzing monthly financial reports. Able to formulate financial policy/controls to ensure appropriate fiscal oversight. Meet tight deadlines,
