The Marketing Director, with a primary focus on Public Relations and External Communications, leads the Southwest Region's external communications strategy and execution, ensuring McCarthy's reputation, voice, and perspective are clearly and consistently represented across all external audiences. This role also ensures alignment between internal and external messaging and strengthens employee engagement through effective communications. The Marketing Director serves as a leader and trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing counsel on strategic communication opportunities that support the company's business priorities. This role is responsible for building, leading, and developing a high-performing marketing and communications team, setting clear priorities, standards, and processes. This position will be based in Phoenix, Arizona. Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute a comprehensive external communications strategy that supports McCarthy's business objectives, growth priorities, and long-term reputation.
- Serve as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives, providing counsel on external messaging, positioning, and public-facing communications.
- Collaborate with the Senior Communications Manager to guide media relations strategy, including proactive story development, press outreach, media training, and response to inbound media inquiries.
- Oversee crisis and issues management planning and execution, working closely with Legal, Safety, HR, and Operations to ensure timely, accurate, and aligned communications.
- Provide strategic oversight of project- and market-level communications, including major project announcements, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and community or stakeholder engagement efforts.
- Develop and elevate thought leadership, community, and industry positioning opportunities that raise McCarthy's profile across trade, business, and national media.
- Partner with external public relations consultants to monitor industry trends, the media landscape, and reputational risks, and to proactively identify opportunities.
- Partner with HR on the development and execution of internal organizational and change management communications plans.
- Counsel senior-level executives and work holistically across regions to drive a unified voice and amplify and align key messages and content.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team, establishing clear priorities, standards, and processes.
- Measure and demonstrate the impact of communications using data, analytics, and stakeholder feedback, and use insights to continuously refine strategies and support business objectives.
- Leverage AI platforms to enhance content development, media monitoring, and analytics.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience leading external communications and media relations; real estate or construction industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic counsel to senior executives and influence decision-making at the leadership level.
- Strong track record of managing high-stakes communications, including crisis and issues management.
- Experience partnering across multiple business lines and regions to drive consistency and a unified external voice.
- Proven leadership experience building, managing, and developing teams of communications professionals.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, operate effectively under pressure, and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
