Perhaps no small town in America — and there are only about 10,000 people who live here — offers the blend of natural beauty, cultural sophistication, and civic engagement that defines Port Townsend. Situated at the northeastern tip of the Olympic Peninsula and overlooking the Salish Sea, Port Townsend is stunningly beautiful, architecturally distinctive, and culturally rich.
This video shows some of our remarkable story and what makes Port Townsend so special.
With a vibrant arts community, a historic downtown waterfront, and year-round festivals and maritime traditions, Port Townsend is truly one of a kind. We are also fortunate to be just a short drive from Olympic National Park, offering extraordinary natural beauty and recreational opportunities in abundance.
Our schools reflect the aspirations of this remarkable community. Port Townsend High School was recently named among the top 20 public high schools in Washington State by U.S. News & World Report — a recognition of the commitment of our educators, students, families, and community partners. Community support for our schools, both in terms of funding and volunteerism, is strong and deeply rooted as evidenced by high voter support of levies and the recent construction bond to revitalize the high school and alternative school.
The Port Townsend School District is currently seeking an Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations to join our community July 1, 2026. This role is central to the design, implementation, and stewardship of the district’s fiscal and operational systems, ensuring that our resources align with and advance our strategic goals.
